The Romans subsequently brought gutters to Britain.

The Modern Era

At around 1931 to 1950, gutters in Britain were generally made of plastic. This was because the two world wars have accelerated the development of synthetic materials, plastic included. It wasn’t until the 1960s, however, that aluminum gutter machines were invented. By then, this became the norm because of aluminum’s sheer strength and lack of heft.
